Below is a brief description of the trip per day:

Day 1
Flight from Amsterdam to Nairobi. You are picked up from the airport and we spend the night at a quiet campsite about 10 km south of Nairobi.

Day 2
Explanation about your car and camping equipment. Stocking up supplies for the coming days (local markets).

Day 3
The first short driving day on the tarmac road to Lake Naivasha. We spend the night at a campsite right on the Lake Naivasha. At night you hear the hippos graze in this bird-rich area and a visit from the monkeys will not be missed.

Day 4
While staying at the Lake Naivasha, a visit to Hell’s Gate National Park is on the program. This is one of the few parks where it is allowed to go on a bike safari. It is a special experience to be cycling between the zebra, wildebeest, buffalo, gazelles and baboons. The park centers around the crater of the dormant volcano Mount Longonot. We visit the Njorowa gorge by foot. You can make a walk of two or three hours. The gorge was the scene of several action movies, including Tomb Raider / Cradle of Life. A local guide will tell you about the customs and habits in this area.

Day 5
To quickly travel many kilometers we drive most of the day on the tarmac road to Talek, one of the entrances to Masai Mara National Park. We stay at a campsite located next to the entrance gate of the Masai Mara at the Talek river, so in the evening you have a beautiful view over the vast plains and you may spot the first game from your lazy chair.

Day 6
You go for a game drive in the Masai Mara, accompanied by a local guide. The landscape consists mainly of grass plains with acacia trees. Wildlife is therefore easy to see: wildebeests, gazelles, lions, cheetahs, elephants, rhinos, buffalo’s, leopards and wild boars cross the plains. The acacia trees are the domain of the giraffes. They feast on the leaves, twigs and shoots. In the reserve flows the Mara River, which is best known for the annual migration of zebra and wildebeest. In the evening you return to the same camping site.

Day 7
A leisurely ride off road through small Masai villages with beautiful views. We camp out in a very special place, Entesekra, situated atop a hill surrounded by beautiful views over the rift valley. In the evening a campfire, this is Africa at it’s purest!

Day 8
We ride today quietly, off road, in the direction of Narok. Along the course, you can stop when you want to take photos, visit a market or have something to drink. We spend the night at a campsite in the vicinity of Narok.

Day 9
Today on the program is a drive to Lake Magadi; it is a large salt lake about 100 kilometers south of Nairobi, tucked deep in the rugged unspoiled Masai land. The road to go there is an experience in itself, from the lush green looking high plateau at 2,400 meters from the Ngong Hills to the lower lake Magadi at 575 meters by tearing a barren landscape plagued by deep erosion. The Masai manage to survive in this incredibly hot dusty landscape. Lake Magadi will suddenly appear, colored bright pink with emerald hues due to the many algae. The lake, which is drying up fast, contains a high concentration of minerals and salts and has many hot springs. A real point of interest are the still pristine southern outgrowths 4 kilometers from the lake Magadi, where many maribu, pelicans, ibises and flamingos live between the hot springs. We camp in the nature, on the edge of the lake.

Day 10
After a visit to the hot springs we drive in the direction of the border. We overnight on a campsite at Kajiado.

Day 11
Today we cross the border into Tanzania and now we drive three days off road in the Masai area. We find a beautiful wild camping at the foot of Mount Longido.

Day 12 + 13 + 14
Ol Doinyo Lengai and Lake Natron. The landscape is dominated by rolling hills and savanna’s, interspersed with volcanic granite rocks. This area has both, the Masai wandering with their herds, as well as zebras and wildebeest. In this area we ride some off-road routes and we camp in the wild. At the foot of the volcano lies Lake Natron , this lake is one of many alkaline lakes of Tanzania. The lake is an important breeding ground for flamingos and small crustaceans. The landscape with the active volcano in the background is very photogenic. We spend the night at a campsite at Lake Natron .

Day 15
Today we stay at a campsite with a swimming pool.

Day 16 + 17
You drive yourself, accompanied by a local guide, to the vast plains of the Serengeti and visit the Ngorongoro crater. You will camp in Serengeti NP

Day 18
In the afternoon we go for a short ride across the tarmac road to the village of Longido. We spend the night at the foot of Mount Longido.

Day 19
“Choice day” Half day: “bird walk”, this walk will be focused around the traditional lifestyle of the Masai. Full day: through an old cattle trail you can take a walk accompanied by a local guide to the summit of Mount Longido. If the weather is clear you have a fantastic view of Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru and the Masai plains.

Day 20
We drive over the border to Kenya again. Early afternoon we arrive at a campsite 10 km outside Nairobi

Day 21
Flight Nairobi – Amsterdam. You will be taken to the Nairobi airport by taxi.
